The North Texas Comedy Festival is a celebration of comedy and charity, drawing talented performers from all over Texas to raise funds for the benefit of area literacy. October 2017 hosted the inaugural festival, which exceeded projected goals in both attendance and revenue. The charitable funds raised shall be put to a community project at the administration of Language of Laughter intended to foster academic literacy outside of the classroom.
Every night of the festival bore cherished conversation with festival goers; organizers expressed their passion for Denton's unique comedy scene, and volunteers communicated our efforts to enrich literacy through laughter.
Post-festival, local performers huddled among comedians they aspired to emulate. The value of focused correspondence between local artists and touring performers is immeasurable. It works to foster an increasingly recognized community of comedians, and further encourages the culture of quality entertainment worthy of Denton.
With 35% of festival proceeds dedicated to charity, the success of the festival ushered in over $1,800 towards the purchase of a community library. The community library will be hosted by a participating Denton business, with staff trained to engage young patrons about literature with the academic language surrounding literacy.
In the interest of accountability and transparency, we have made our financial reporting for North Texas Comedy Festival 2017 available to the public.
